Reports to: Building Principal (beginning Ryan Bivin 2024- 2025 school  year) and Director of Special Education
 
Supervises: Assigned Paraprofessionals, Students
 
Evaluation: Annually by Site Principal (TLE)
 
Status: Exempt
 
Contract:  180 days/7 hours daily
 
Qualifications: Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate in Assigned Subject(s); Special Education Certification (Mild/Moderate), Intermediate Math (5 - 12th) 
Pass an OSBI Background Check
 
Job Goal: Provide exceptional instruction to assigned students while working within the district's established policies and procedures.
 
Classification: Exempt
 
Personal Qualifications: 
  • Must possess knowledge in all areas of responsibility and law and local policy.
  • Must be computer literate with at least the ability to send and receive an email with attachments, produce memos, navigate the internet as required by position responsibilities, accurately complete and submit forms or reports as needed, etc. 
  • Must be able to read and comprehend written instructions, policies, and procedures. 
  • Must be attentive to details, a self-starter, able to work effectively without constant or direct supervision, must be able to multi-task. 
  • Must be of good moral character. 
  • Must have good communication and organizational skills.
 
GENERAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES 
• Teach academic and functional skills to educationally and physically disabled students.
• Modify the general education curriculum for special-needs students using various instructional techniques and technologies.
• Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by the SDE, Board policies, and administrative regulations.
• Assess students' accomplishments regularly by testing students, recording grades, and providing progress reports to parents and appropriate professionals as the district directs.
• Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
• Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
• Establish control in the classroom and administer discipline per Board policies, the student handbook, and administrative regulations.
• Take reasonable caution to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Maintain accurate, complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
• If needed, assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional material.
• Be responsible for supervising the proper usage of teaching supplies, classroom equipment, and other instructional materials.
• Attend and participate in faculty meetings, required professional development, and/or any other meetings required by campus or district administration.
• Maintain acceptable attendance and punctuality per district policy and campus expectations.
• Sponsor and accept responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned or approved by the campus or district administration.
• Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, and parents. Strictly follow the Code of Ethics for Oklahoma Educators.
• Cooperate with other staff members in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
• Work to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Accept and respond appropriately to supervision.
• Provide lesson plans as expected by campus administration.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
• Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and professionals to develop individual educational plans that promote students' educational, physical, and social development.

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS And/or REQUIREMENTS Physical Requirements:
To accomplish this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.
 
Intelligence:
Requires the ability to read and follow various instructions on the district, state, and federal websites and a hard copy.
 
Language Ability:
Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondences.
Requires the ability to prepare lessons, reports, etc., using prescribed formats and conforming to all grammar rules.
 
Verbal Aptitude:
Requires the ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and give oral and written instructions.
Must be able to communicate effectively.
Must possess the ability to speak to people with poise, voice control, and confidence.
Must be able to deliver effective presentations to both small and large audiences.
 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

- Knowledge and application of Sand Springs Public School District and departmental policies and procedures

- Knowledge and application of appropriate teaching strategies and methods

- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public, and others having business with the school district

- Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications and equipment

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

- Specialized teaching assignments may require additional training and/or certification.

- Must pass an initial fingerprint and background clearance check and maintain a valid fingerprint clearance card in the classroom.

- Must be required to lift and carry heavy, bulky supplies and materials weighing 25 pounds.

- May be required to assist and lift students to 100 pounds.

- May be required to work outside regular working hours.

- May be required to travel to perform work functions.
