Sand Springs Public Schools Behavioral Technician (Paraprofessional) 

                                            2024-2025 School Year

 

Location:     Angus Valley Elementary, 412 West 55th Street, Sand Springs, OK

                    and

                    Limestone Elementary, 4201 Walnut Creek Drive, Sand Springs, OK 

                                  

 

Title:           Paraprofessional for Behavioral Support

 

Status:        Exempt

 

Contract:     180 days/7 hours daily

 

Supervisor: Building Principal

 

Salary:         An additional 10% stipend will be added to the base salary

 

Evaluation: Annually (District Evaluation Form)

 

JOB GOAL:  Proactively manage students with challenging behaviors to ensure they can participate in the general education curriculum. The ability to effectively and calmly de-escalate behavior difficulties when presented is an essential function of this position.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. State Department of Education Paraprofessional Registry Training
  2. High School Diploma or GED
  3. Maintain current training and skills in CPR and First Aid
  4. Complete universal precautions training
  5. Complete an additional 6 hours of personnel development each school year 
  6. Additional Requirements for Tier I and Tier II Paraprofessionals (dual background check, SDE Certificate)

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  

  1.  Assist with instruction and activities for individuals or groups as assigned by the teacher.
  2.  Supervise students in instructional settings, off-campus activities, and non-instructional activities.
  3.  Prepare, create, and/or adapt instructional material as the teacher or coordinator directs.
  4. Carry out a behavior intervention plan created for specific students with fidelity.
  5. Assist students with assignments.
  6. Assist with behavior management strategies and respond appropriately to escalating students when necessary.
  7. Assist with tracking behaviors and reporting behavior escalations.
  8. Participate in IEP meetings as appropriate.
  9. May assist students with personal care needs, first aid, and getting on and off the school bus.
  10. Assist the teacher with compiling students' work to send home.
  11. Performs extra duties to supervise students before, during lunch, after school, in detention, or at any other time as deemed necessary by the administrator or teacher.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned. 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:   

  1. Abide by state statutes, school board policies, and regulations.
  2. Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
  3. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  4. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  5. Serve on committees as assigned.

Regular Requirements: Stand for extended periods; walk; twist at the neck and trunk; bend and reach with hands and arms overhead, above the shoulder, and horizontally; repetitive use of fingers and hands to grasp and/or operate equipment and demonstrate lessons to students; lift/move up to 40 pounds

Occasional Requirements: Lift/move up to 50 pounds, ability to administer CPR

Visual Requirements: Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus

Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information
