TITLE: Paraprofessional for Behavioral Support
STATUS: Non-Exempt
EVALUATION: Annually
CONTRACT: 180 days/ 7 hours daily
SALARY: $15.18 hourly/ plus a 10% stipend based of base pay
QUALIFICATIONS:
- State Department of Education Paraprofessional Registry Training
- High School Diploma or GED
- Maintain current training and skills in CPR and First Aid
- Complete universal precautions training
- Complete an additional 6 hours of personnel development each school year
- Other Requirements for Tier I and Tier II Paraprofessionals (dual background check, SDE Certificate)
JOB GOAL: Proactively manage students with challenging behaviors to ensure they can participate in the general education curriculum. The ability to effectively and calmly de-escalate behavior difficulties when presented is an essential function of this position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist with instruction and activities for individuals or groups as assigned by the teacher.
- Supervise students in instructional settings, off-campus activities, and non-instructional activities.
- Prepare, create, and/or adapt instructional material as the principal/teacher or coordinator directs.
- Carry out a behavior intervention plan created for specific students with fidelity.
- Assist students with assignments.
- Assist with behavior management strategies and respond appropriately to escalating students when necessary.
- Assist with tracking behaviors and reporting behavior escalations.
- Participate in IEP meetings as appropriate.
- May assist students with personal care needs, first aid, and getting on and off the school bus.
- Assist the teacher with compiling students' work to send home.
- Performs extra duties to supervise students before, during lunch, after school, in detention, or at any other time as deemed necessary by the administrator or teacher.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Abide by state statutes, school board policies, and regulations.
- Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
- Serve on committees as assigned.
