Status:  Exempt

 

Contract:  210 days/ 8 hours a day

 

Evaluation Tool: McRel and Checkpoint Meetings 

 

Salary:  To be determined based on education and experience. Excellent benefits package includes paid employee health insurance, paid employee dental insurance, paid basic life insurance and paid Oklahoma Teachers Retirement (OTRS).

 

Certification and Requirements:

• Pass an OSBI background check
• Master's degree in educational leadership or a related field.
• Valid Oklahoma teaching certificate and administrative endorsement.   

Position Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced educational leader to serve as the Principal of our Alternative School. As the Principal, you will be responsible for the school's overall leadership, management, and academic success, ensuring that all students receive a high-quality education tailored to their individual needs. First and foremost, he or she must be a leader who manages the school team to recruit and retain a full student enrollment throughout the year. With full enrollment, the Principal also ensures a quality educational experience for all students and, working with the staff, guides students into promising job and career pathways.

This person will be the principal of Page Academy and the Sand Springs Public Schools Transition Academy (a post-secondary program for special education students 18-22 years of age to assist students with independent living and work skills). 

 

 

About the Alternative School and Transition Academy:

Sand Springs Alternative School is a unique educational setting that serves students struggling in traditional school environments. We are committed to providing a supportive, individualized, and engaging learning experience that empowers students to succeed. 

 

Sand Springs PS Transition Academy is a post-secondary special education program for students 18 through 22. The program's primary focus is on independent living and work skills. Typically, there are approximately five staff members and 10 to 12 students working at the Transition Academy. 

 

Additional Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a successful school leader.
• Experience working with diverse student populations, including students with special needs or at-risk students.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
• Ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with others.
• A passion for working with students who may be struggling in traditional school settings.

Enrollment Process:

• Ensure a seamless enrollment process that is easy for students and parents to navigate
• Check that cumulative files are consistent and in order with all necessary documents
• Collaborate with Secondary Principals, Assistant Principals, and guidance counselors for enrollment, success, and support of students

Compliance/Operations:

• Ensure the school is compliant with all federal, state, and district requirements and implement a safe environment

Retention:

• Monitor the process of documenting school absences, from the issuance of attendance letters to home visits to scheduling AIT meetings to create intervention plans

Student Academic Achievement:

• Conduct and monitor data Staff Evaluations:

• Will be responsible for certified and support staff evaluations.

Student Discipline:

• Execute all discipline and provide due process to students in the instance of school rule violations
• Work with the IS and SpEd Coordinator when Manifestation Determination hearings are required
• Ensure that all discipline actions align with Board discipline policies

 

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Collaborate closely with Special Education services (i.e., IEPs/ETRs)
• Track the progress of all students, with special attention on upperclassmen, providing them the coaching needed for them to progress in their graduation and career plan and score well on required tests
• Act as a resource to support job-embedded professional learning and improved academic achievement in the school
• Facilitate a variety of in-depth, sustained professional learning experiences aligned with the school improvement goals for student achievement
• Provide classroom-based support for the implementation of new and/or refined instructional practices
• Create structures and processes for collaborative work that promote collegiality and shared responsibility
• Keep the school board and other stakeholders aware of activities, progress, obstacles, and successes in student achievement and improve teacher practice
• Create a positive and professional school environment that welcomes learners and their families
• Attend regular Principal training, mentorship, and support meetings.
• Perform all other duties as assigned

• Instructional Leadership:
• Develop and implement a strong instructional program that meets the diverse needs of students.
• Monitor student progress and provide data-driven instruction.
• Collaborate with teachers to ensure effective teaching practices.
• School Management:
• Manage the day-to-day operations of the school Page Academy and the Transition Academy.
• Oversee the school budget and resources.
• Ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
• Staff Leadership:
• Hire, train, and evaluate staff.
• Provide professional development opportunities for teachers.
• Foster a collaborative and supportive school culture.
• Community Relations:
• Build strong relationships with parents, students, and community partners.
• Advocate for the needs of students and the school.
• Represent the school at community events.
• Strengthen existing partnerships and develop new partnerships to help assist the students, school, and staff.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

This position works primarily in an office environment with a low to medium noise level. It requires the ability to sit and/or stand for a prolonged period, move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials manually, stoop, bend, and reach, and regular attendance and physical presence at the office.
