Qualifications

Hold a valid Oklahoma Secondary Counselors certificate

Clearly understands and adheres to the School Counselor Code of Ethics and Oklahoma Accreditation Standard VI

Enroll students, using knowledge of learning abilities and adolescent development while preparing them for academic success and developing an appreciation for lifelong learning

Understands and communicates how to successfully plan, prepare for, and enter post-secondary education and/or employment by forming tentative career goals and implementing strategies to achieve them

Expand study and test-taking skill opportunities for state and national tests for all students

Works with students to learn and practice skills and techniques for decision-making and to problem-solve in school and in the community that support positive health and safety choices

 

Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications: To effectively work with staff members to counsel students

Demonstrate, examine, and analyze how interpersonal communication affects relationships with peers and adults

Serves as a member of the school's Counselor Advisory Committee, which creates and maintains annual documentation of school counseling services

Constructs a specific school program and prepares an articulated school counseling program with supporting documentation

Other duties as may be assigned

 

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
  • Clearly understands and adheres to the School Counselor Code of Ethics and Oklahoma Accreditation Standard VI.
  • Enroll students using knowledge of learning abilities and adolescent development while preparing them for academic success and developing an appreciation for lifelong learning.
  • Facilitate course and subject selection based on student's abilities and quality of school achievement while setting academic and career goals.
  • Serves as liaison between parents and school personnel and services.
  • Understands and communicates how to successfully plan, prepare for, and enter post-secondary education and/or employment by forming tentative career goals and implementing strategies to achieve them.
  • Guides students in their participation in school and community activities.
  • Expand study and test-taking skill opportunities for state and national tests for all students.
  • Works with students to learn and practice skills and techniques for decision-making and problem-solving in school and the community that supports positive health and safety choices.
  • Demonstrate, examine, and analyze how interpersonal communication affects relationships with peers and adults.

Regular Requirements:

Stand for extended periods; walk; twist at the neck and trunk; bend and reach with hands and arms overhead, above the shoulder, and horizontally; repetitive use of fingers and hands to grasp and/or operate equipment and demonstrate lessons to students; lift/move up to 15 pounds.

Occasional Requirements: Lift/move up to 25 pounds, ability to administer CPR

Visual Requirements: Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus

Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information
