Status: Exempt
Evaluation: TLE Evaluation Tool
Salary: Teacher's Salary Schedule (180 days),(Plus stipend for 20 additional days)
Days/Hours: 200 days/7 hours a day (Start Date July 31, 2025)
Certification: Applicants must hold OKla. Special Education certification and pass an OSBA background check, Master's Degree (Preferred)
Job Description: Sand Springs Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Coordinator to begin at the start of the 25-26 school year. Responsibilities for this position include ensuring proper delivery of special education services across member districts, maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations related to special education, monitoring and approving IEP paperwork, facilitating professional development opportunities, staying updated on effective instructional strategies, and fostering communication between school and home settings.

Three to five years of teaching experience and experience in testing/assessment administration.

Knowledge of the Special Education process and laws.

Excellent organizational skills, oral and written skills, time management, and telephone skills.

Computer skills and knowledge of assistive technology are desired.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
-
Responsible for supervision of the special education process from screening through identification, IEP development, and assisting in providing appropriate identification and placement of students with disabilities.

Assist in implementing the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) in accordance with district policies and procedures.

Supervise and coordinate special education programs, policies, and diagnostic procedures.

Organize and ensure completion of all evaluation reports and IEPs.

Complete reviews of all special education IEP documents, ensuring compliance with District procedure and state and federal laws; identify areas of need within the areas of compliance and work to develop and implement programs to address those needs.

Initiate transfer and new referral records screening and contact the previous school districts to obtain necessary information on new students.

Perform and monitor evaluation and timelines to ensure appropriate student placement and programming.

Work with principals, department heads, and other team members to facilitate the integration of all students into regular classes as appropriate.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist the Assistant Superintendent of Special Services in researching and/or implementing new program components.

Assist in the preparation of federal, state, and local reports on special education.

Develop, provide, and promote regular in-service training to special education instructors regarding special education procedures; assist mainstream classroom teachers with inclusion facilitation.
- Attends meetings and training sessions related to special education as deemed appropriate by the Director of Special Services.
- Maintains confidentiality and non-judgmental views of children and families served.
- Performs any other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Principals or Asst. Supt. of Special Education.

Language Ability:
Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondences.
Requires the ability to prepare lessons, reports, etc., using prescribed formats and conforming to all grammar rules.
Verbal Aptitude:
Requires the ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, to give oral and written instructions.
Must be able to communicate effectively.
Must possess the ability to speak to people with poise, voice control, and confidence.
Must be able to deliver effective presentations to both small and large audiences.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Knowledge and application of Sand Springs Public School District and departmental policies and procedures
- Knowledge and application of appropriate teaching strategies and methods
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public, and others having business with the school district
- Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications and equipment
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Specialized teaching assignments may require additional training and/or certification.
- Must be able to pass an initial fingerprint and background clearance check and maintain a valid fingerprint clearance card when in the classroom.
- May be required to assist and lift students to 50 pounds.
- May be required to work outside regular working hours.
- May be required to travel to perform work functions.
