Reports to:     Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director, Principal

 

Sand Springs Schools is accepting applications for HEAD GIRLS BASKETBALL COACH for the 2025-2026 season. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, running all aspects of a comprehensive 7-12 PROGRAM, including Practice and event day management & coaching, staffing, media and public relations, fiscal management of the program budget, and other responsibilities assigned by the Athletic Director.

JOB SUMMARY:

BASKETBALL HEAD COACH PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES

• Has full responsibility for the overall supervision of the basketball program, including Junior Varsity and Middle School.

• Is in charge of the assignments and duties of assistant coaches in the basketball program.

• Is responsible for the general upkeep and equipment protection under their jurisdiction.

• Is directly responsible for a complete inventory of the equipment used for the basketball program, to be made at the end of each season.

• Is responsible for submitting a "want list" to be used in drafting a budget for the basketball program, which will be done at the end of the season.

• Is responsible for keeping records as requested by the Athletic Director.

• Is responsible for organizing daily basketball practice periods within the time specified by the Principal and keeping proper authorities informed of practice schedules during holiday periods. The coach should be present at all practices. If the coach cannot be present, practice should not be scheduled.

• Has primary responsibility for building good sportsmanship and developing good public relations in the school and the community.

• Attend OSSAA Rules Meetings and OCA Regional Meetings.

• Any additional duties assigned by the Athletic Director or Assistant Athletic Director.

PERSONNEL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Is responsible for knowing the rules concerning basketball in the Oklahoma State Activities Association handbook and always abiding by them.

• Is responsible for seeing that each athlete turning out for the sport has had a physical examination and has adequate insurance coverage as specified by the State Association and local policy. These forms, when completed, should be given to the Athletic Director for filing.

• Is responsible for the general health and welfare of the athletes in the sport and always gives appropriate attention to injured, ill, or otherwise incapacitated athletes.

• Is responsible for the actions and conduct of the team whenever they are under his/her jurisdiction.

• Is responsible for seeing the team members dress appropriately for trips to other schools.

• Is responsible for clearing with the Principal the departure time for trips that involve loss of school time and for seeing that the faculty is given adequate and appropriate notice.

• Is responsible for seeing all participants have transportation home when returning from road trips in the late evening hours.

• Makes recommendations for letter awards and is responsible for clarification of the award policy to athletes.

• The administrator shall take appropriate action to ensure that the basketball gym, showers, and locker rooms are clean and safe for student use. The administrator shall always supervise the gym for misuse and help control its abuse.

• Is responsible for seeing that the basketball gym is ready for all contests (the score clock and P.A. system should be put out, and the floor should be clean). Check the area before leaving at night for lights and locked doors.

• Is responsible for explaining all school district and high school policies to all team members.

• Responsible for ensuring that the team members enforce all school rules and regulations. Should work in harmony with the Principal and the Athletic Director at all times.

• Attend OSSAA Rules Meetings and OCA Regional Meetings.

• CPR Certification (every two years) • Obtain a Commercial Driver's License

• Any additional duties assigned by the Athletic Director or Assistant Athletic Director.

Occasional Requirements: Lift/move up to 25 pounds, ability to administer CPR
