Job Title: School Health Aide/Assistant
Reports to: School Nurse and/or Principal
Job Summary:
The School Health Aide supports the school nurse and school administration in promoting and maintaining the health and well-being of students. This role involves providing basic first aid, assisting with medication administration under supervision, maintaining health records, and supporting health-related programs within the school. The Health Aide ensures that students’ health needs are addressed promptly to promote a safe and supportive learning environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Provide basic first aid and care to students and staff with illness or injury.
· Assist the school nurse with medication administration, treatments, and medical procedures as delegated and trained.
· Monitor students with chronic health conditions as directed by the nurse (e.g., diabetes, asthma, seizures).
· Maintain accurate and confidential health records, logs, and documentation of clinic visits.
· Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns, under the direction of the school nurse.
· Support the implementation of health screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis, etc.).
· Follow infection control procedures and support a clean, safe clinic environment.
· Assist in identifying students who may require exclusion from school due to illness according to district and state guidelines.
· Participate in emergency response procedures and assist during medical emergencies.
· Support health education and wellness initiatives within the school community.
· Perform other duties as assigned by the school nurse or administration.
Qualifications:
· CNA Preferred
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Prior experience in healthcare, childcare, or school setting preferred.
· Current CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
· Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and healthcare providers.
· Knowledge of basic health practices, safety protocols, and confidentiality standards.
· Compassion, patience, and professionalism in working with children and families.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to stand, walk, and move around the school campus.
· Ability to lift and assist students if needed (up to 40 lbs).
· Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
